SCOPE

We invite panel proposals that engage with the complexity of the apocalypse from cultural, spiritual, political, ecological, scientific, and/or technological perspectives. Interdisciplinary panels are particularly welcome. Proposals may examine both the destructive and transformative energies of crisis, aiming to unpack apocalyptic imaginaries while also exploring regenerative responses across diverse fields and practices.

Panel sessions may be rooted in a single discipline or take an interdisciplinary approach, but are designed to collectively create space for dialogue and the emergence of creative outputs across fields, methodologies, and practices. By addressing a multiplicity of topics that are rarely brought into conversation, they invite exchanges that would be difficult to generate in more narrowly focused events.

THEMES

Proposals addressing any of the following topics (but not only) will be welcome:

  • The cultural, political, ecological, and spiritual dimensions of apocalyptic imaginaries
  • Historical and contemporary narratives of crisis, collapse, and regeneration
  • Methodological innovations in researching systemic transformation and uncertainty
  • Embodied, artistic, and community-based responses to planetary challenges.

Some examples of subtopics include, but are not limited to:

  • Rethinking origin, heritage, and identity through descentering practices
  • Apocalyptic imaginaries and regenerative responses (psychological, cultural, spiritual, political, social, scientific)
  • Fear and hope: the neuropsychology of apocalypse and regeneration
  • Embodied eco-awakening, eco-theology and ecodelic practices
  • Critical perspectives on media, capitalism, war, aging, and aesthetics as apocalyptic forces
  • End-of-times fascism, borders, and global crisis narratives
  • Methodologies for building cognitive flexibility across worldviews
  • Political ontology, materiality, human nature, and cultural narratives
  • Democratizing ontology in education, research, and policy
  • Planetary purpose, regenerative grief, and secular/spiritual frameworks of meaning
  • Council of all beings, ecoacoustics, and forest-based methodologies
  • Regenerative food, permaculture and urban sustainability practices
  • Participatory and embodied approaches to research and knowledge co-creation
  • Performance and arts-based research for systemic transformations
  • Regenerative approaches to AI and digital technologies
  • Ecoaldeas: myths, realities, and models for systemic change
  • Conscious restraint, degrowth, and slow living
  • Student-led regenerative practices and educational innovation
  • Any other intersections of unexpected connections relevant to regeneration.

FORMAT OF THE PANEL SESSIONS

Each panel, composed by a moderator and four speakers, will be allocated a two-hour session, structured as follows: a 15-minute introduction by the moderator, followed by four individual presentations of 15 minutes by each speaker, and concluding with 45 minutes of dialogue with the audience.

Following the selection of panels, a second phase will open shortly thereafter with a call for individual paper proposals to complete the configuration of each session. The selection of papers will be coordinated collaboratively between the panel moderators and the organizing committee.

SUBMISSIONS

To submit a proposal, please prepare a Word document in English, Spanish, or Catalan that includes the following: the title of the panel, a panel abstract (maximum 250 words), a short biography of the moderator (maximum 100 words), and contact details (email and phone number). Submit your proposals to apocalypse.conference@uab.cat with the subject “Panel proposal”.

LOGISTIC CONSIDERATIONS

Participation in the conference is free of charge. Travel costs for panel moderators and speakers will be considered on a case-by-case basis to ensure equal opportunities for researchers (i.e. early career, migrant academics, etc.) who may have more limited access to conference funding.

Deadline for panel submissions: 25 September 2025

Notification of acceptance for panels: 2 October 2025
